Henderson State University's Division of Information Technology Services serves as the backbone for all technology at Henderson. Our goal is to create and sustain an environment where student success is our first priority.
Computer & Communication Services (CCS) has been merged with Instructional Technology (classroom technology and online teaching technology) to form Information Technology Services (ITS). Instructional Technology now operates as Academic Technology within the new division of ITS. Information Technology Services
Academic technology incorporates Henderson's learning management applications such as Canvas, Grammarly, TechSmith Relay, TurnItIn, and many others. Academic technology provides and supports faculty development on the use of online and classroom technology.
Campus AV equipment covers audio/visual equipment that is outside of the teaching and classroom environment. This includes consultation, installation, repair, and support of assorted sound systems at the stadiums as well as informational television screens in public areas. Classroom teaching stations: The technology within the classrooms on the Henderson campus varies according to the needs of each specific classroom, the subjects which are taught in that room, and the desires of the instructors using the room. There are approximately 130 classrooms with teaching stations and other related equipment such as interactive whiteboards, iPad systems, etc. Ben Matthews, Classroom Technology Specialist, is dedicated to assisting faculty and servicing technology in the classroom. Communication: Email for students is Outlook with Office 365 while email for employees is Google Mail. The on-campus VOIP telephone system is Shortel. Support for Outlook, Google Mail, and Shortel are provided by the Help Desk.
Help Desk: The Information Technology Services (ITS) Help Desk provides technology support to students, faculty, and staff on a wide range of products. The Help Desk maintains an easy to use 24/7 ticket support portal. Go to help.hsu.edu to submit a ticket. The Help Desk is located in Foster Hall room 205, among the dining hall, Sturgis Hall, and East Hall. The ITS Help Desk is staffed weekdays, 8 AM to 5 PM for in-person support. Some problems can be resolved by reviewing information that is posted on myHenderson, on the solutions tab at help.hsu.edu, or on the Canvas login page (for online courses). myHenderson provides steps on how to access email for students, faculty, and staff. Google Mail (Google Suites For Education) is the supported communication and collaboration tool for Henderson employees. More information about Google Mail is located on myHenderson. Please contact the Help Desk if you have questions.
Grammarly is an application that helps writers become more proficient in the art of writing. Grammarly checks for spelling errors, grammatical issues, and other common writing problems. Grammarly also has a powerful plagiarism checker. Access the education version of Grammarly by clicking here.
Student computer labs: Henderson supports over 465 computers in 20 computer labs. The Huie Library alone provides approximately 100 computers. Some student computer labs have advanced applications such as the Adobe suite. A complete list of campus computer labs can be found here.
myHenderson is Henderson's intranet. Every student and employee has access to myHenderson. myHenderson is where students will find an unofficial transcript, check a semester's account status, and view financial aid. It also allows faculty and staff to input grades, email students by class, view pay stubs, and manage password resets. View the QuickLinks box for shortcuts to most used items. Network: Henderson provides an advanced, powerful, and up-to-date network system. Henderson State provides wired and wireless network access to all students, faculty, and staff. Each Residence Hall has a multitude of Wireless Access Points operating both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz to provide optimal connectivity for devices. Each student has access to one Ethernet port if faster speeds or more reliable service is desired. HSU has membership in the AREON group, providing 10Gbps in fiber bandwidth. Every student, faculty, and staff member is given a network username and password, managed by Microsoft Active Directory. This account is used to log into computers around campus as well as web services like myHenderson and Library Databases.
