ROTC Options for Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Veteran Soldiers

The objective of the ROTC Simultaneous Membership Program is to provide more ROTC graduates for the National Guard (NG) (SMP) and Army Reserve (USAR). The SMP Program allows cadets to serve as officers in the National Guard or Reserves while in college. As an SMP you will participate in drill with your unit one weekend a month and two weeks during the summer with pay and benefits. After graduation, the cadet can remain with his Guard or Army Reserves unit or accept an active duty position (non-scholarship cadets).

Benefits

  • Receive experience and serve in a Troop Program Unit (NG or Res or unit) as a company grade officer.
  • Receive a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) contract if desired. Non-scholarship students may request a GRFD contract, and if approved, are assured they will have U.S. Army Reserve (NG or Res) unit duty only.
  • Receive pay as an E-5. An E-5 (2 years of service) is entitled to $275.00 (gross pay) for one weekend drill. An SMP participant who performs 12 weekend drills per year could earn $3,700.00 (gross pay).
  • Receive annual training during the summer pay with TPU and the Cadet will earn approximately $1,050.00.
  • Receive a ROTC subsistence allowance of $420 per month for 10 months ($4200 per year)
  • Receive Advance ROTC Course cadet pay during the summer of your junior year (approximately $850)

One-Year Possible Benefit

  • ROTC Subsistence allowance: $2,500.00 per year

  • Weekend Drills: $2815.32 per year

  2. ROTC stipend of at least $350-$500/month
  3. SMP pay at the rank of Sergeant (approximately $275/month)
  4. Eligible for AR ARNG scholarship

Commitment:

  1. 8 Combined Service
  2. 4 active & 4 IRR
  3. 8 USAR or ARNG (drilling status)
  4. 6 ARNG or USAR & 2 IRR (drilling status)
