Henderson to host Arkansas Undergraduate Research Conference April 12
Henderson State University will host the Arkansas Undergraduate Research Conference (AURC) April 12. Students from across the state will give short, oral presentations or present posters describing their research.
Students and faculty of all disciplines are invited to attend the annual event.
“Research topics span the full range of academic areas – from science and education, to history, psychology, business, and the arts,” said Dr. Brett Serviss, professor of Natural Sciences at Henderson and conference chair.
The AURC provides a venue for undergraduate research students from all disciplines to present the results of their research to peers and faculty at a formal, professional setting, Serviss said. At the end of their presentations, student presenters will have the opportunity for feedback from the attendees.
While the AURC is a presentation-only venue, the students’ research work may be presented at other meetings and/or submitted for potential publication.
Serviss said the AURC was initiated in 1993 and was held consecutively for 26 years through 2019, when it was suspended. It was reinstated this year.
Henderson has an Undergraduate Research and Travel Committee that is overseeing the AURC, but Serviss said anyone interested in helping with the preparation for, or implementation of the conference is welcome, and can contact him for more information at servisb@hsu.edu.
AURC registration begins April 12 at 8 a.m., followed by a keynote address by Dr. Noureen Siraj, professor of chemistry at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The poster session starts at 10 a.m., with oral presentations beginning at 1:30 p.m.
All activities will be held in the Garrison Activity and Conference Center.
General registration is $30, and student registration is $20. The registration deadline is March 3. To submit an abstract and register, go to hsu.edu/undergraduate-research. Abstracts must be submitted by February 28.
