Dr. Carrie Pawelski joined the faculty of Henderson State University in 2013 as Director of Bands. Her duties include directing the Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Concert Band, teaching classes in conducting, and supervising student interns. She is the co-director of the marching band that brings the Reddie Spirit to Henderson, The Showband of Arkansas, while she also provides administrative leadership to all aspects of the Henderson Bands.


Prior to her appointment at Henderson, Dr. Pawelski completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from Arizona State University where she studied with Professor Gary Hill and her Masters Degree in conducting at the State University of New York at Fredonia where she studied with Dr. Paula Holcomb. Before her graduate studies, Dr. Pawelski served as a 6-12 band director for the School District of South Milwaukee in Wisconsin. There she formed the first competitive marching band in the history of the high school, was the K-12 Music Curriculum Coordinator, the middle school music department chair, and also served as President of the Board of Directors for the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. Dr. Pawelski earned her undergraduate degrees at the Eastman School of Music where she was a student of Dr. John Marcellus.


Throughout her career, Dr. Pawelski has had the priveledge of playing under the baton of and studying with many conductors including Ray Cramer, James DePriest, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Ricky Fleming, Eiji Oue, Christopher Seaman, Carl St. Clair, film composer John Williams, and Rodney Winther. She played in the Eastman Wind Ensemble under the direction of Donald Hunsberger and has performed with recording artists such as pop star Bobby McFerrin, American folk violinist Mark O’Conner, and jazz trombone icon, Wycliffe Gordon. 


Dr. Pawelski is an active member of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), National Band Association (NBA), Arkansas Bandmasters Association (ABA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the International Trombone Association (ITA). While at Arizona State, she was initiated as an honory member into the Beta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, and at Henderson State University she is the supervisor for the Theta Phi chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi as well as the Theta Theta chapter of Tau Beta Sigma.
