Academic Policies 2020-2021

Catalog Year For Graduation Requirements

Students will be assigned to the catalog year during which they first enroll at Henderson State University (HSU). This will be the catalog year for any majors, minors or other programs of study declared while the student remains continuously enrolled at HSU. Students who fall out of continuous enrollment will have their catalog year reset to the catalog current at the time of readmission to the university.

Exceptions will be made if a student returns after falling out of continuous enrollment with a previously signed and approved graduation application on file less than five years old, or if extenuating circumstances are documented in the Registrar's Office prior to an approved academic absence (such as a military deployment).

In these cases the student will be permitted to finish under the original catalog. If the original major, minor, or required coursework is no longer available, the Registrar will coordinate with the student and relevant academic department to find the most appropriate path to degree completion.

Updated Policy for Banner 9 Implementation - 04-10-2022

All prior catalog years assigned to previously declared curriculum will transfer to the Banner student record. Any new curriculum declared will be assigned the current catalog year at the time of declaration.

Example #1: If you currently are pursuing a major under the catalog year 2019-2020, but now decide to add a minor, your major program requirements will continue to fall under the 2019-2020 catalog, but your new minor requirements will reflect the 2021-2022 catalog.

Example #2: If you decide to change your major, the course requirements for your new major will fall under the current academic catalog (2021-2022).

Readmitted Students: Readmitted Students will have their curriculum reset to the current catalog year upon returning to the university. An exception will be made for students who have a signed and approved graduation application on file less than five years old, or if extenuating circumstances are documented in the Registrar's Office prior to an approved academic absence (such as a military deployment). In these cases the student will be permitted to finish under the original catalog. If the original major, minor, or required coursework is no longer available, the Registrar will coordinate with the student and relevant academic department to find the most appropriate path to degree completion.
