We at Henderson State University are thoroughly dedicated to the liberal arts and sciences and to education in professional programs. We accomplish this mission for you by “actively recruiting, challenging, supporting, and motivating students to achieve academic success” (HSU Mission Statement). We provide for you a welcoming liberal arts and sciences learning community, one we believe you will value for its intimacy and dedication to your success. The integration of a broad, liberal education component into our four-year undergraduate curriculum is designed to enable you to think logically and critically; communicate effectively; appreciate the diversity of all cultures; understand the physical universe; participate in society as a concerned, intelligent citizen; and appreciate appropriate uses of technology.
The mission of the Henderson State University’s graduate school is to provide advanced and specialized education beyond the baccalaureate program. The pursuit of graduate study presupposes that you already possess a broad background of knowledge with an adequate preparation at the baccalaureate level in a major field of study. As one of our graduate students, you are expected to assume responsibility and to exercise individual initiative, utilize extensive and intensive research and reading, demonstrate qualities of leadership, and engage in free thought and discourse.
Our faculty is, frankly, second to none. They possess a wonderful array of professional and personal backgrounds and interests, and they are devoted to making your time at HSU the most cherished years of your life. The members of the faculty you will get to know during your time here will mentor you in your various academic and extracurricular pursuits, model exceptional professional behavior, and support you in whatever academic and professional pursuits in which you engage. The result of your time with our extraordinary faculty and staff is that what you will know, will be able to do, and have experienced will qualify you to be the complete “Reddie,” prepared to manage the many personal and professional ambiguities you are likely to face as you enter your chosen profession.
Our academic support services, from the Advising Center and Career Services, to the Library, Multimedia Learning Center, Testing Center, and tutoring labs work to provide you with the tools and skills necessary to be a highly successful Reddie. Additionally, the university offers special academic programs and services with which you can engage as you choose—ROTC, Disability Services,Student Support Services, and the Ronald McNair Scholars Program, just to name a few.
If you have any questions about our academic programs or services, please do not hesitate to contact us. I hope that you will have an opportunity to schedule a campus visit, to give us an opportunity to show you firsthand what wonderful people we have and what an extraordinary place the university truly is!
