Purpose:
The Dantes Subject Standardized Tests enable students to obtain college credit for what they have learned on the job, through self-study, personal interest, correspondence courses or by any other means.  The DSST program is available through The Chauncey Group International and is used by colleges and universities to award college credit to students who demonstrate that they know as much as students completing an equivalent college course.  The program is a cost efficient,  time-saving way for students to use their knowledge to accomplish their educational goals.

Henderson is an open test center for the DANTES program.  Students may take the tests on Henderson's campus and have scores sent to other institutions if needed.  Henderson students who make the recommended score or better can receive credit to be used for free electives only.  Credit is placed on the transcript after a student has completed at least 15 hours at HSU with at least a 2.00 grade average.  The term "credit" is placed on the transcript, and the hours do not enter into a student's grade point average.  The following restrictions apply to Henderson students:

  • A student may take a Dantes test in any area or field in which he/she has not completed a more advanced course.
  • Students cannot have been enrolled in the course at the college level.
  • Business majors/minors may not receive credit for the business tests.
  • English majors/minors may not receive credit for Technical Writing.

Description:
There are 37 different test titles in the areas of Social Science, Business, Mathematics, Applied Technology, Humanities and Physical Science.  Tests can usually be completed within 90 minutes, but additional time can be allowed if necessary.  The tests may be taken again after 6 months (180 days).
