Department of Social Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences at Henderson State University! The members of our department teach courses in three primary subject areas, geography, history, and political science, and we offer student majors in history, political science, and public administration/public management for those pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree through Henderson’s Ellis College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, we offer a major in social sciences for those pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Education degree through Henderson’s Teachers College. We also offer students minor fields of study in geography, history, international studies, political science, and social sciences.
Our various majors and minors are especially designed for those who plan careers in law, law enforcement, the military, the ministry, public administration/public management, the State Department and foreign services, teaching, and related vocations.

Dr. Martin Halpern, professor of history at Henderson State University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach at the University of Munich in Germany in 2012-13.
The Fulbright Program is the U.S. Government’s flagship program in international educational exchange. It was proposed in 1945 by Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year where they lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
