Huie Library Resources Are Going Mobile!

Many of your favorite electronic resources available from Huie Library now have mobile interfaces, allowing you to do your research while on the go! Check out the following mobile resources for more information and access instructions.


 

ACS  

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions:  The American Chemical Society (ACS) has developed a mobile app for Apple and Android devices that allows you to start your research on the go.  With the ACS Mobile App, you can follow any of the 39 journals and their ASAP articles, save ASAP Articles to your "My ASAP" folder, and browse and search through over 35,000 abstracts of articles.  At this point, if you want to access the full-text of the articles to which we subscribe, you will need to be using the mobile device while on HSU and Huie Library's authenticated wireless network.  To get started using ACS Mobile today, simply download the App from Apple's App Store or the Android Market.

Annual Reviews 

 

Supported Devices: All devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions: Annual Reviews has developed a new mobile website that you can access from anywhere after a simple authentication process. In order to freely access the mobile website, simply visit the Annual Reviews website on your mobile device while on HSU's and Huie Library's authenticated wireless network. This will grant you access to Annual Reviews on that mobile device for 6 months and allows you to freely search Annual Reviews from anywhere at any time.

ARTstor  

 

Supported Devices: Apple devices and any device with Firefox 5+.

 

Description and Access Instructions:  You can now search through over one million images from your mobile device with ARTstor Mobile.  ARTstor Mobile is designed for Apple devices and any mobile device using the Firefox 5+ web browser.  While on campusand on your mobile device, you can simply navigate to ARTstor and the database will recognize that you are on a mobile device, or you can visit http://mobile.artstor.org. If you want to access ARTstor Mobile from aff campus, you will also need to register with ARTstor to obtain a username and password.  Simply go to the ARTstor Digital Library, click the Register link on the top right corner, and provide an email and password when prompted.

CountryWatch  

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android devices. App costs $2.99. 

 

Description and Access Instructions:  CountryWatch offers an App for Apple and Android devices; however, this is not a free App and cost $2.99 in both App Store and the Android Market.  After you purchase the App, you will be able to search and browse through the data for all the countries around the world.

EBSCO Databases 

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android apps; All devices on the EBSCOhost Mobile website.

 

Description and Access Instructions for the EBSCOhost app: Enjoy access to you favorite EBSCO databases on your Apple and Android devices with the free EBSCOhost app available at Apple's App Store or the Android Market. After downloading the app onto your device, visit any regular EBSCO database and click on the link entitled "New: EBSCOhost iPhone and Android Applications" on the bottom of the page. Follow the directions on the page and EBSCO will send you an activation e-mail. In order to activate your app, open the e-mail and click on the activation link while on your Apple or Android device. This will activate your EBSCOhost app and you will have access to Huie Library's EBSCOhost Mobile Databases from anywhere for nine months.

Description and Access Instructions for the EBSCOhost Mobile website: EBSCO also has a Mobile website where you can search for articles in their databases using any mobile device. Simply go to any EBSCO database or our Huie SuperSearch discovery service and EBSCO will automatically detect that you are on a mobile device and will redirect you to their mobile site. If you are off the HSU campus and network, you will need to enter your HSU ID and password in order to gain access.

Ebsco App

Gale Databases 

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android.

 

Description and Access Instructions: Gale's free AccessMyLibrary College app for Apple and Android devices provides you with access to all of Huie Library's Gale databases directly from your mobile device. First, you need to download the app onto your device from either Apple's App Store or the Android Market. When you open the app for the first time, choose the state "Arkansas" and then choose "Henderson State University" as your school. On the next screen enter your HSU email address. Gale will immediately send you a password to that e-mail address. Enter the password in the app and you will unlock unlimited access to all of the Gale databases from Huie Library.

IOPscience 

 

Supported Devices: Apple devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions: The IOPscience express app for Apple devices allows you to view and download articles that have been published in over 40 IOP-hosted journals over the last two years. You can also search for relevant articles, and e-mail information about selected articles to yourself or a colleague to enable access at a later date. IOPscience express allows you to download up to 20 articles per month to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad at no cost to you. Simply go to Apple's App Store, download the free app, and start searching!

JSTOR 

 

Supported Devices: All devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions: JSTOR now has a Mobile beta website that allows you to search for and discover articles from your mobile device. The Mobile website was designed as a discovery service that helps you find articles and then email the citation to yourself so you can view the full article later from a computer. If you would like to view the articles on your mobile device, it does also have a zoom feature that allows you to zoom into specific pages if you are on an authenticated network address. Visit http://mobile.jstor.org on your mobile device and start discovering new articles today from any location!

LexisNexis Academic

Description and Access Instructions: LexisNexis Academic now has a mobile interface that allows you to perform basic searches from your mobile device. Simply go to the LexisNexis Academic Mobile website and you can "Search the News," "Look up News Article," "Look up Legal Case," and "Look up Company Dossier" all from your mobile device. If you are off the HSU campus and network, you will need to enter your HSU ID and password in order to gain access.

Naxos Music Library 

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android.

 

Description and Access Instructions: Naxos Music Library (NML) now has an app for your mobile Android and Apple devices, which allows you to search the NML database, stream music, and play your previously created playlists. In order to use this app, first you need to set up an account with the NML. While in the the NML database, go to the "Playlists" section and click on the "Sign up" link, and then create an account by providing your name, your e-mail address, and a password. Once you have an account you can create and save playlists working directly in the NML database. You can download the app onto your device from Apple's App Store or from the Android Market, and the first time you run the app, enter your username (E-mail) and password and you will have access to the NML database and your playlists from anywhere at any time.

Naxos Music Library App

OverDrive 

 

Supported Devices: Apple, Android, Blackberry, and Windows phone devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions: OverDrive now offers OverDrive Media Console Apps for Apple, Android, Blackberry, and Windows mobile devices, which allows you to download audiobooks and eBooks directly to your mobile device from our OverDrive collection. The first step that you need to take is to download the app from Apple's App Store, the Android Market, or the OverDrive website. Once you have the App and have opened it on your device, tap the "Get Books" button and search for and select Huie Library. When you tap "Huie Library" the App will bring you to Huie Library's OverDrive collection from which you can checkout and download audiobooks and eBooks directly to your mobile device.

OverDrive Media Console App

PubMed 

 

Supported Devices: Apple and Android apps; All devices on Mobile websites.

 

Description and Access Instructions for PubMed apps: PubMed has a few different apps that allow you to search their database from either an Apple device or an Android device. Apple users can choose between two PubMed on Tap apps: PubMed on Tap Lite (free) and PubMed on Tap ($2.99) and Android users can use the PubMed Mobile app. Unfortunately, the Android app does not have an EZ Proxy setting so you can only search the citations and cannot gain access to the materials from the app. The Apple apps do support EZ Proxy settings, so you can search the PubMed databases, retrieve full-text articles, and even email the articles to yourself all while on the go. Apple users should go into the setting in their app and set the Library Proxy to "http://library.hsu.edu:2048/login?url=%@" without the quotation marks.

 

Description and Access Instructions for PubMed Mobile websites: PubMed also has two mobile websites that allow users to search the PubMed database while on the go. These simple mobile interfaces allow you to conduct basic searches and provide links to some full-text articles when available. The two mobile websites, PubMed handheld and the newer PubMed Mobile beta, provide you with mobile access to PubMed from any mobile device.

PubMed on Tap Lite App

ScienceDirect 

 

Supported Devices: Apple, Android, and Blackberry devices.

 

Description and Access Instructions: Now you can use the ScienceDirect Mobile Apps to search this important science database from anywhere while on your mobile device. In order to use the ScienceDirect App, you first need to register with ScienceDirect and create a username and password, so you should first go to the ScienceDirect website and follow the registration instructions to create an account. Once you have an account, download the App for your device from Apple's AppStore, the Android Market, or the Blackberry App World. The first time that you open the App on your device, enter your ScienceDirect username and password and your HSU e-mail. ScienceDirect will then send you a validation email with a link and instructions, which will allow you to validate your account and unlock your ScienceDirect app, making it possible to search the ScienceDirect database from anywhere!

SciFinder

Description and Access Instructions: Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) now offers SciFinder Mobile, which allows you to search this chemistry database while on your mobile device. In order to use SciFinder Mobile, you first need to register with SciFinder and create a username and password. Go to the SciFinder website and follow the registration instructions to create an account, which can then be used to gain access to the regular SciFinder website and the SciFinder Mobile while on your mobile device.

Description and Access Instructions: With WorldCat Mobile Web beta, you can search for books, music, movies and more around the world from your mobile device. Simply go to www.worldcat.org/m/ to begin searching for materials around the world. After performing your first search, you can click on the "Find in a Library" link, enter the zip code 71999, and choose Henderson State University in order to find materially locally as well.
