Student awarded Claritas Investment Certificate

Montana Fuller, a Henderson State University student majoring in finance, has been awarded the Claritas Investment Certificate by the CFA Institute.

The Claritas Program provides an overview of the investments industry that includes coverage of a variety of investment topics, ethics, accounting, and economics. It is truly a global program with certificate holders from around the world in such countries as Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong.

The certificate is awarded upon passing a two-hour exam. The program is geared toward financial services professionals who are not in investment decision-making roles such as those in IT, sales and marketing, and legal and administrative services.

Montana took advantage of an investments class that is affiliated with the Claritas Investment Certificate Academic Program. The program recognizes courses covering the Claritas curriculum and provides students in the course a free eBook of the Claritas curriculum and the opportunity for participating schools to award five scholarships that reduce the exam fee by over 50 percent.

Henderson was one of the first two universities in North America that participated in the Claritas program’s first year in the spring of 2015. Although the Claritas program is mainly for “non-finance types,” for finance students like Fuller, the course is an avenue to gain entry-level knowledge in investments, and gaining the certificate is a recognition of such an education.

After successfully passing the Beginning Investments class, students are eligible to enroll in Beginning Investments Lab where students participate in the management of the Ross Whipple Student Managed Investment Fund, a real investment portfolio currently valued at more than $400,000.

Henderson is also a participant in the CFA Institute’s University Recognition Program.
