Department of Music

On Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. the Henderson State University Department of Music presents a Clarinet Studio Recital featuring guest artist Kimberly Cole Luevano in Harwood Recital Hall.

With reviews such as “breathtaking…” (The Clarinet), “virtuosic tone and technique”(Tampa Bay Times), “exceptionally sensitive and introspective rendition” (The Clarinet), and “a most skillful artist” (Fanfare Magazine), Kimberly Cole Luevano continually establishes herself as a formidable soloist and chamber musician. Cole Luevano joined the University of North Texas faculty in 2011 and served as a member of the clarinet faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp from 2003 to 2012. She was appointed as Pedagogy Chairperson for the International Clarinet Association in 2012 and has given acclaimed solo and chamber performances, adjudicated, and presented masterclasses throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and in Asia and South America. She has performed at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest® on numerous occasions, and former students occupy performing and teaching positions throughout the United States and Canada.

The Henderson State University Opera Workshop will present songs and choruses from Leonard Bernstein’s musical comedy Candide on April 10 at the Woodlands Fine Arts Center in Hot Springs Village. This delightful operetta is based on Voltaire’s satire about a naïve young man’s introduction to the crueler realities of life. These songs will present a tale of nonsense and misadventure that is not to be missed! The performance is at 7:30 pm, and tickets are $10.00.

Henderson State University’s Department of Music will present its third gala in support of the Friends of Music on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in the Russell Fine Arts building.  The gala will include refreshments and a series of short concerts featuring student solo and chamber performances, as well as performances by the Henderson instrumental ensembles and choirs.  For more information, click here.

“The undergraduate education in music that I received from Henderson has changed my life by opening doors for me both educationally and professionally. It prepared me for success by giving me the tools necessary to be a successful music educator. My BME achieved at Henderson afforded me opportunities for success in graduate and post graduate studies as well as professional advancement in addition to allowing my family and me the employment and thus financial security that is so precarious today without such educational opportunities. I am grateful to Henderson State University.”
