Art Education (B.S.E.)

The art education program at Henderson State University follows the NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) recommendations for essential competencies in personal qualities, art and technical processes, teaching, and professional procedures for baccalaureate degree programs for art education. Our program is certified by the Arkansas Department of Education.

Art Education students are made aware of and trained to follow the Arkansas Arts Curriculum Frameworks.

BSE candidates are active members of the Arkansas Art Education Association and National Art Education Association. Students who graduate from our program have gone on to teach in the state of Arkansas as well as throughout the region. BSE candidates work with the community in the K-12 Artlab and the Summer Teacher Intensive Studio Classes offered to Art Educators.

“The undergraduate education in music that I received from Henderson has changed my life by opening doors for me both educationally and professionally. It prepared me for success by giving me the tools necessary to be a successful music educator. My BME achieved at Henderson afforded me opportunities for success in graduate and post graduate studies as well as professional advancement in addition to allowing my family and me the employment and thus financial security that is so precarious today without such educational opportunities. I am grateful to Henderson State University.”
