The Department of Recreation at Henderson State University is a leader in preparing students for careers in Leisure Service Management, Natural Resource Management and Therapeutic Recreation Services. Many of our majors go on to graduate or professional training in such areas as Sport Management, Travel & Tourism, Fitness Management, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Park Interpretation, Park Management, Municipal Administration and Corporate Wellness.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Dee White taught in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation from 1963 until her retirement in 1994. White has been recognized by the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame for her participation in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She continues to work to encourage girls to be active in sports. Her work and legacy have been recognized by a number of people, groups and organizations.
