International students

International Student Center

The international housing experience is a themed community that houses a co-ed mix of twenty International students and ten American students in apartment-style rooms, with a semi-private restroom and kitchens. By choosing to live in this themed community you will be committing to living in an environment where sharing cultural experience is expected. Here you will find a meeting room, recreation room, vending area and laundry room. If you are looking for social opportunities in the building, there are many opportunities to get to know other students by attending the numerous RA programs or hall council events. Some of these fun events include: International holiday celebrations, game nights, recipe exchanges, and movie nights. These programs provide you plenty of opportunity to have a fun get-together with your friends and learn about another culture without ever leaving the building.

Your "new" home

When you arrive you will find that your room is fully furnished with carpet, living room furniture, two twin beds, two desks, walk-in closets, a kitchen equipped with a stove and refrigerator, window blind, cable TV connection, local phone service (upon request) and a data port for internet connection. You will also find that all the furniture in the room is movable and can be rearranged, depending on your style. Depending on the style of you and your roommate you may want to bring extra furniture to make your apartment unique to you.

The Staff

There are two university staff members that live in the International House. You will find your Resident Assistant’s (RA) apartment on the first floor of the building. The RA is a specially selected and trained student with the experience and knowledge to help you get acclimated to the building and university life. On the third floor of the International House, you will find your Hall Director’s apartment. The Hall Director is there to provide an additional help you may need and is responsible for the day to day management of the building.

“At HSU my schedule in any given semester was likely to include chemistry and philosophy, or biology and history, or physics and literature. That juxtaposition of ideas helped me understand things in ways that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. A physicist who has learned how to think like a historian, or like a biologist, or like a philosopher is much better equipped to solve a wide variety of complex problems than someone who has mastered some quantity of technical information.”
