Whether you want to perfect your volleyball serve, learn new teaching techniques or fly an airplane, Henderson has a summer camp for you.
Henderson State University Band Camps
Band Camps: Henderson Band Camp is a 40+-year tradition that attracts more than 1,000 students to campus every year. Three sessions are available: Junior I—for students who just finished their first year in band; Junior II—for students who have completed their second or third year of band; Senior High School—for students who are entering their 9th -12th grade band programs. Each session ranges from 5 to 7 days. Camp instructors are all band directors, frequently Henderson alumni, who teach in the public schools in Arkansas. Camp counselors are Henderson students who interact with campers during the times when they are not in band rehearsals or sectionals. Each year a new guest artist is featured, usually someone who performs in a symphony or has a distinguished solo career. Past artists have included Otis Murphy, who saxophone professor at Indiana University and Greg Pattillo, a famous beat-box flutist.
We can’t wait to see you all in the summer of 2011 for the 45th annual Henderson Band Camp!
The 2011 Henderson Band Camp dates are:
- Jr. I (first-year students): June 21-25
- Jr. II (2nd & 3rd year students): June 28-July 2
- Senior High School: July 10-16

The Henderson State Aviation, Finance, and Science Departments have teamed together to offer a unique summer camp. Students will request to participate in either: Aviation/Finance, Aviation/Science, or Finance/Science. Students will experience the stars in Henderson’s state-of-the-art planetarium; fly a short, cross-county flight into Hot Springs; or learn how to run their own business. The Aviation program is limited to the first 24 applicants. The Science and Finance programs are limited to the first 36 applicants. A junior and senior high camp is offered, and participants sleep in the Sturgis Honors Dorm on campus.
Lady Reddie Volleyball Camps
Henderson hosts a series of summer volleyball camps for students in grades 7-12. Two four-day sessions are geared toward the development of overall individual and team skills and two other single-day sessions focus specifically on the setter position and the middle blocker and defensive hitter play. Camps are directed by Coach Rhonda Thigpen, a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.
