Teacher Education

Henderson has been in the business of training teachers since 1929, when the university was named Henderson State Teachers College. Even though the university now offers a full liberal arts curriculum including graduate degrees, Henderson remains a leader in teacher preparation. Teachers College, Henderson is one of only four institutions in Arkansas that is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education since NCATE’s inception in 1954.

In addition to its outstanding academic programs, Teachers College, Henderson is home to the Alliance for Continuing Excellence in Education, The M.H. Russell Center for Economic Education, and the Southwest-A Educational Renewal Zone, comprised of a number of public schools, two-year colleges, and educational cooperatives working together to improve P-16 education in Arkansas. The university also offers the public teaching supplies from laminating and color printing to die-cut shapes and letters through the MultiMedia Learning Center located in the education building.
