Henderson State University’s School of Business inducted W.H. “Dub” Arnold, retired Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, into its Hall of Fame during an awards banquet April 26. Arnold graduated from Henderson in 1957 with a bachelor of arts degree. He continued his education at the Arkansas School of Law in Little Rock where he earned his juris doctor degree in 1962.
Arnold was born and raised in Arkadelphia and practiced law for more than 40 years in the area. After one year of practice in Arkadelphia, he was appointed deputy prosecuting attorney for Clark County. He then served as prosecuting attorney for the 8th Judicial District. In 1973, Arnold was appointed chairman of the Workers Compensation Commission. His career continued as district judge of Clark County, prosecuting attorney of the 9th Judicial District East, and circuit judge of the 9th Judicial District East. He was elected chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1997 and retired in 2003. Today, Arnold is a partner in the law firm of Arnold, Batson, Turner & Turner.
In 1999, Henderson honored Arnold as a distinguished alumnus. He received the distinguished alumnus award from the Grand Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa, and the Clark County judicial building is named in his honor.
