Kevin Taylor

Kevin Taylor’s passion for music education is evident in the performance honors his public school students are earning. The Benton-Harmony Grove band has won 19 consecutive “Sweepstakes” awards in Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association (ASBOA) competitions.

Taylor’s groups have won plenty of regional, state, and national honors in the almost-30 years he has been at Benton-Harmony Grove schools. He started the instrumental music program there and continues serving as band director and instructor of Advanced Placement Music History. While he has spent most of his teaching career within that district, he has also taught at Benton and Hope schools.

When he isn’t teaching band, Taylor is involved in promoting it through a number of organizations. He was a director of the Arkansas Ambassadors of Music program from 1999 to 2011, allowing him to conduct outstanding bands across Europe. He currently serves on the executive board of the ASBOA and coordinates the logistics of the Arkansas All-State Concert Band. He is a member of several music organizations and was among the first in the state to receive National Board Certification in 2002.

At the backbone of Taylor’s career is the Bachelor of Music Education he earned from Henderson State in 1982. He received certification to teach both choral and instrumental music. Taylor continued his education by earning a master’s degree in education science from Arkansas State University in 2010.
