EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY

Attending College was something I have always wanted to do. However, before choosing to attend Henderson, I made the decision to attend Southern Arkansas University, and I guess even though I was in Mulerider country, that Reddie Spirit won me over. I decided to transfer to Henderson, and on August 24, 2003, my college career began. I always took 12-15 hours each semester, and during my sophomore year I got a work-study job that allowed me to study and still earn some sort of income. During my junior year, I worked two jobs and went to school full time. This is when I learned how to balance work and school and still enjoy campus life. On May 9, 2008, I was the first in my family to graduate with a college degree. Not only was my family happy and proud, but I was proud of myself because I had accomplished one of my life goals. That summer, I was accepted in the master’s program at Henderson and I decided to pursue a master’s in clinical mental health. I was also working full time at Perritt Primary School in Pre-k, and I loved every minute of it!! In May 2012 I graduated with my Master’s degree and accepted a fulltime position at Henderson. I plan to pursue my PhD in the near future, but I am happy to work at my alma mater and help students like so many people helped me.

FAVORITE FOODS

I’m a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but my favorite dish of all time is Fried Catfish, Homemade French fries, and homemade coleslaw. Also, a cool glass of sweet tea with lemon and fresh mint goes great with this dish. I love Authentic Mexican dishes with homemade salsa and chips!! My favorite dessert is coconut cake!!

PERSONAL QUOTE:

“Give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, he will eat for life!!”

ADVICE:

Take responsibility for your own actions. Too often college students want to blame everyone else but themselves. When you make a mistake, learn from it, and ask yourself, “What can I do to change this situation?” Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
