Department of Family and Consumer Science

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a multidimensional area of professional study has been an integral part of the Henderson State University curriculum for over fifty years. This program began as a four-year, vocationally-approved program, and the curriculum has undergone many changes in order to prepare graduates to compete in the constantly changing workplace.

A recent U.S. Department of Agriculture national survey indicates a positive, continuing demand for these professionals through the next decade. FCS graduates possess unique professional competencies derived from rigorous integrated training in the physical, biological, and social sciences, and the arts and humanities. They are able to synthesize and apply these competencies through a comprehensive study of the family and its interaction with the environment.

Today, the FCS Department offers opportunities for study in Child Care Management, Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, Fashion Merchandising, and Family and Consumer Sciences Education

"I think anyone interested in health and nutrition should give Henderson’s program a try. You gain the knowledge you need with small classrooms that make you feel like you aren't just a number. I loved going through this program and feel it has made me ready for my future."
