Department of Family and Consumer Sciences

 FCS

Welcome to Proctor Hall home of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Family and Consumer Sciences, a multidimensional area of professional study, has been an integral part of the Henderson State University academic curriculum for over fifty years. The program began as a four-year, vocationally-approved program. Throughout the years, the curriculum has undergone viable changes in order to prepare graduates to compete in the constantly changing workplace.

Employment opportunities for Family and Consumer Sciences graduates, as reported in a recent national survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, indicate a positive, continuing demand for these professionals throughout the next decade. Family and Consumer Sciences graduates possess unique professional competencies derived from rigorous, integrated academic training in the physical, biological, and social sciences, and the arts and humanities. Graduates are able to synthesize and apply these competencies through the holistic study of the family and its interaction with the environment.

Today the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers opportunities for study in Child Care Management, Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, Foods and Nutrition, as well as Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
