In November 2006, the Southwest –A ERZ collaborated with the Arkansas Department of Education, Dawson Service Cooperative, South Central Service Cooperative, Henderson Mathematics and Science Center , public school practitioners, Discovery Education Network, and Arkansas Consumer Education, to provide 2 days of on-site professional development to Henderson pre-service teachers and students from other colleges. Various breakout sessions on state initiatives, Understanding Children of Poverty, No Child Left Behind /Adequate Yearly Progress, economic education etc., provided pre-service teachers relevant training specific to the stated needs of area public schools. Based on school needs, evaluation of pre-service teachers and response from higher education faculty, a professional development conference will be held biannually. Pre-service teachers will be encouraged to participate in the teleconferences and professional development activities provided through education service cooperatives. Education service cooperative staff will continue to in-service pre-service students and staff on accessing ESC works/professional development opportunities.
