Providing mentoring (induction) support for teachers new to the profession, teachers new to the ERZ districts, non-traditional and career teachers can be an effective recruitment and retention strategy. Henderson in collaboration with co-ops, public schools and other service providers offers a 2 ½ day Induction Retreat for all ERZ schools. Participants are paired with mentors from education service cooperatives, Math and Science Center, and higher education who will provide support, assistance, and formative feedback. The ERZ office surveys superintendents to collect data on specific content strategies to be included in designing the induction model. The ERZ office collaborates with education service cooperatives, Henderson faculty and school district administrators to expand and approve the model and plan for delivery of services. Strategies include classroom management, instructional strategies, understanding data using frameworks, curriculum mapping, pacing guides, etc. Feedback from surveys, teacher participants, mentors, principals and superintendents is used to re-evaluate and re-design on an annual basis.
