Our Program
Our Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree is a blend of mechanical and electrical engineering elements. Our program immerses students in a curriculum that emphasizes a deep understanding of the fundamentals of the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Students may choose to specialize in electrical or mechanical engineering through elective courses their junior and senior years. Following graduation, students employ their skills in a wide range of technical careers, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer-technology, research, and aerospace.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.
Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.
Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia, and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,144 programs at 812 colleges and universities in 32 countries.
Program Educational Objectives
The Department of Engineering and Physics strives to produce outstanding graduates who are successful in their careers. Within the three to five years following graduation a Henderson State University engineering alumni will:
- Have an engineering job or a career that utilizes the application of their engineering education in the workplace.
- Have completed professional development activities to enhance their credentials, including the pursuit of advanced degrees appropriate to their career fields.
Student Outcomes
The department has adopted the following engineering student outcomes to be assessed through the undergraduate engineering curriculum:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
