Liberal Arts Core Requirements
Undergraduate Catalog 2008-2010 PRINT PAGE
One of the distinguishing characteristics of a quality liberal arts education is a strong general education program. The university has strengthened its Liberal Arts Core in recent years and is continuing to strengthen and integrate this core of courses which provides graduates with that knowledge essential for a liberal education. The university is dedicated to exploring themes and ideas that cross disciplines, such as writing across the curriculum, interdisciplinary faculty consultation, and course development.
Students may count no more than 7 hours of “D” in the Liberal Arts Core. Students must earn grades of "C" or better in Freshman English A & B to meet the university English proficiency requirement. A "C" or better is required in ENG 3313 - Review Composition.
The following areas of study are required of all students. The general goal in each area is stated. Courses meeting the requirement in each area are listed. Some major areas modify the sequence in which required courses are taken and have preferences among the courses listed.
Students should consult with their major area advisor and the curricula specified for the major and the degree planned.
