Furthermore, the department's graduate courses in geography, history, philosophy, and political science are part of the curriculum of the university's M.L.A. degree program.
Public Administration is an inter-disciplinary major designed to provide elements of liberal education relevant to the prepartion for public service in society.

English (3 Hours)
Foreign Language Option (12 Hours). Public Administration majors are required to complete 12 hours of foreign language courses -OR- (see Financial Analysis Option).
Financial Analysis Option (12 Hours). Students may choose the financial analysis option in lieu of the foreign language aspect of the degree. The following courses are required in lieu of the foreign language course requirement:
- Principles of Accounting-A
- Principles of Accounting-B
- Federal Income Tax Accounting
- Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory -OR- Not-for-Profit Accounting
Elective Courses (9 Hours). Public Administration majors are required to take 6 house of Political Science elective courses and 3 hours of Bisiness Administration elective courses. For course availability, consult the Social Sciences Department semester course rotation pamphlet and the current Henderson State catalogue.
Liberal Arts Core Courses. Public Administration majors must satisfy the University's liberal arts core requirments, as stipulated in the Henderson State catalogue.
NOTE: In order to be eligible for graduation, all Henderson State students must complete at least 124 hours of course work.
Political Science majors may enroll in a wide range of courses spanning the entire spectrum of political science--American politics, public policy, international relations, comparative government, public administration, public law, and political theory. Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society, is an active organization in the department.

In addition to the four required political science courses (12 credit hours), majors are required to take 21 hours in political science electives. Also, political science majors are required to complete two years of a foreign language and the Henderson State Liberal Arts core.
History plays a vital part in Henderson's liberal arts education by providing all students with insight into complex and diverse human societies as they change over time. The history program emphasizes developing critical thinking and writing skills. Students may select courses from a wide array of courses in American, European, and nonwestern history. Henderson's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society, is a large and active organization.

In addition to the five required history courses (15 credit hours), majors are required to take 18 hours in history electives. Also, history majors are required to complete two years of a foreign language and the Henderson State Liberal Arts core.
A Social Sciences degree is available for students preparing to teach in secondary schools. The degree includes courses in political science, history, geography, economics, and sociology.

The Geography minor emphasizes the study of human geography in Europe, Latin America, the United States and Canada, and the Pacific. A minor in geography includes the following courses:

The International Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program involving political science, sociology, history, geography, business, and foreign language courses. The requirements for this minor are:
