IRS Section 125 Cafeteria Plan is provided by HSU and is currently administered by a third party, Select Data Services.  HSU pays all administrative costs of the plan.  This program allows an employee to pay for eligible dependent care and un-reimbursed medical expenses on a tax savings basis. It also allows for certain insurance premiums to be paid on a pre-tax basis.

USAble provides several voluntary supplemental insurances. These include short-term disability, voluntary group term life, cancer, accident, intensive care, and heart attack/stroke policies. The enrollment for these is once per year during the annual open enrollment period which is held in November.  Coverage for these insurances becomes effective in February.

Group life insurance coverage, administered by MetLife, is provided at no cost to all benefit eligible employees.  The amount of coverage is based on the employee's annual salary.  Ten month employees will receive a value of 1.2 times their annual base salary (rounded to the next nearest thousand) in benefits.  All 12 month faculty, administrative, and bi-weekly employees will receive one times their annual base salary (rounded to the next nearest thousand) in benefits up to $200,000 in maximum benefits.

Long term disability, administered by Jefferson Pilot Financial, is provided for all benefit eligible employees.  The benefit of the plan assures employees of receiving up to 66.7% of their contract salary up to $7,500 maximum. The waiting period for eligibility, after a physician's certification, is six (6) months or 180 days.

Arkansas worker's compensation coverage is provided to all HSU employees.  HSU assumes the cost of this benefit. Below are the two forms you would need to fill out if you are reporting an injury or illness.  These forms only need to be filled out if the injury or illness occurred while on the job.

Arkansas' state unemployment benefit coverage is provided to all employees.  HSU assumes the cost of this benefit.

 

Retirement plans HSU participate in:

Arkansas Teacher Retirement System (ATRS) is the plan most often used by the public schools of Arkansas.  Full-time members of this plan must contribute 6% of their gross monthly pay.  Part-time members are non-contributory participants. You are vested in this plan after completing five (5) years of service. The University contributes in accordance with state law, which is currently 14%.  ATRS is a defined benefit plan.

Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System (APERS) is the plan used by employees of several cities in Arkansas as well as institutes of higher learning.  Members of this plan must contribute 5% of their gross monthly pay. You are vested in this plan after completing five (5) years of service. The University contributes to this system in accordance with state law, which is currently 12.54%.  APERS is a defined benefit plan.

Alternate Retirement Plan was established by Act 436 of the 1967 legislature.  It authorizes Teacher's Insurance and Annuity Association and College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) to provide an alternate plan of retirement for teachers, administrators, and staff. You are vested in this plan immediately. Members of this plan must contribute 6% of their gross monthly pay.  The University contributes in accordance with state law, which is currently 10%.  Contributions made by the employee to this plan are tax sheltered.  Additional deductions (above the mandated 6%) to TIAA-CREF may be requested under the SRA plan or the basic TIAA-CREF plan.  Please check with the Office of Human Resources and/or TIAA-CREF for the current IRS guidelines for additional deferred compensation. TIAA-CREF is a defined contribution plan.

Sick leave is available to benefit eligible employees as provided by the Faculty Handbook, Staff Handbook, and the State of Arkansas OPM.  Full-time faculty on a 10 month contract will receive 30 days of sick leave each year. Sick leave for full-time 12 month faculty and administrative staff is accrued at 8 hours per month.  Sick leave, for faculty and administrative staff, is to be documented on the Monthly Leave Form and must be submitted to Human Resources by the 10th of each month. Sick leave for bi-weekly employees is dependent upon hours worked. Sick leave for bi-weekly employees is to be documented on timecards. The maximum allowed by the State to be accrued is 960 hours/or 120 days. See attached accrual rate sheet for specific information.

Vacation time/annual leave is not accrued by ten month employees. Bi-weekly, 12 month faculty, and administrative employees earn vacation time/annual leave based on guidelines set by the Arkansas OPM.  Accrual rates are based on years of service with the State of Arkansas. Career service recognition payments are awarded to employees of state agencies and non-faculty employees of an institution of higher education once they complete ten (10) or more years of state service in either elected positions or classified or non-classified regular full-time position or positions.  See attached accrual rate sheet for specific information.

Direct deposit is made available to all employees of Henderson State University.  Employees who wish to participate in direct deposit must complete and return the Direct Deposit Request Form, along with a voided check, to the Human Resource Office (Womack 209). New direct deposit participants will continue to receive a regular paper check the first pay period after the request is made and the second pay period the direct deposit will be made to the bank account specified.

Henderson State Federal Credit Union is located in the Garrison Building in D203.  Participation in the Credit Union must be applied for directly at the Credit Union Office. The Credit Union offers savings accounts, Christmas club accounts, and a variety of loan options. Their office hours are Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Identification cards are available to employees and their dependents.  The card can be used for admission to athletic events, to use athletic facilities for recreational purposes, and for use of the University library.  The Human Resource Office will provide you with a form to take to Womack 102 in order to have your picture I.D. made.

Parking permits are obtained from the University Police Office, located in the Horton House at 1125 Henderson Street. There is no charge for the initial parking tag. Faculty and Staff have been provided with reserved parking areas marked in red. Exiting employees will be charged a $20.00 fee if the parking tag is not returned to the University Police Office. The Human Resource office will provide you with a form to take to the Campus Police to obtain your parking permit. 

Tuition benefits are provided to employees of HSU who are employed a minimum of 20 hours per week or greater.  HSU employees who are enrolled in undergraduate classes are exempt from tuition and are required to pay only the cost of books and fees.  HSU employees enrolled in a graduate program will pay $20.00 per credit hour plus fees.  Dependents of HSU employees will pay $10.00 per credit hour plus all undergraduate fees.  Dependents will pay full tuition and fees for the graduate program.
