The Department of Residence Life, in conjunction with Sherwin-Williams in Arkadelphia, has identified an acceptable palette of colors that students living in Smith or Newberry halls will be able to use to paint their rooms. There are soft shades of green, red, yellow, blue and khaki that are available.
You will be responsible for purchasing the paint and supplies (at reduced prices) from Sherwin-Williams in Arkadelphia. We will allow students to come in the weekend before school starts (August 14, 15 and 16) to paint their rooms. If you are going to paint you will need to contact Debbie Beals at the Arkadelphia Sherwin-Williams store. The number is (870) 246-9828. You will need to order your paint and paint kit and pick it up at the store before painting. Additionally, the university does not have ladders to loan out so please bring a ladder or step-stool if you think you will need one.
The Department of Residence Life will not be responsible for picking up or paying for your supplies.
When you contact Sherwin-Williams, be sure to ask for the HSU Student Kit. It comes with a gallon of paint, a brush, a roller, a pan, painters tape and a drop cloth.
All paint jobs must be approved by the Department of Residence Life and any repainting that must be done will be at the residents’ expense.
You can click here to print out the Permission to Paint form. Please indicate the day you will be coming to paint so we can be ready for you. Just fill it out and send it to:
