CHARLES M. ELLIS and NILA TURNER ENGLISH SCHOLARSHIPS
THE CHARLES M. ELLIS ENGLISH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $400
To be eligible for the Ellis Scholarship, the applicant must be a junior at Henderson State University; the scholarship is awarded for the recipient's senior year. One half of the award is payable during the fall semester; the other half is payable in the spring, provided that the recipient's GPA remains at least a 3.00 overall.
THE NILA TURNER SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $500
To be eligible for the Turner Scholarship, the applicant must be a sophomore at Henderson State University; the scholarship is available for the recipient's junior year. One half of the award is payable during the fall semester; the other half in the spring semester, provided that the recipient's GPA remains at least a 3.00 overall.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY RULES:
I. To be eligible, the applicant must
- Be a declared English major
- Have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
- Have a good record of social behavior and have demonstrated leadership qualities
II. The applicant must file the following materials with the Chairman of the English and Foreign Languages Department:
- An application (available from the Department of English & Foreign Languages)
- An official transcript of all college work
- A brief autobiography (typed)
- Three (3) letters of recommendation (At least one of the letters must be from a Henderson State University English faculty member.)
