Beginning his 22nd year in the sports information field, Troy Mitchell is in his sixth year as sports information director at Henderson State University. Mitchell also handles much of the marketing and promotional duties for the athletic department.

Mitchell also serves on the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee, is the South Region Chair of the Daktronics Softball Team, and is a member of CoSIDA.

Prior to his appointment in September of 2003, Mitchell served 10 years as an assistant sports information director at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Mitchell developed many promotional events at ULM, gathered prize sponsorships, and assisted with fundraising.

A 1985 graduate of John Glenn High School, Mitchell attended Ohio University and earned his bachelor’s degree in health and human services in 1989.

While at Ohio University, Mitchell served as a volunteer student assistant working with the Bobcat baseball, volleyball and wrestling teams, as well as assisting with game day operations for football and basketball games.

Prior to his appointment at ULM, Mitchell worked for two years at Northwestern State and Tulane University.

Mitchell has also worked numerous events such as the 1992 Olympic Trials in New Orleans, the 1992 and 1993 Sugar Bowls, New Orleans Saints football games, and several conference tournament events.

During his 22 years in the business, Mitchell has worked with numerous coaches and athletes, including former LSU Baseball Coach Smoke Laval, Jim Wells of Alabama, Mike Bianco of Mississippi, basketball coach Perry Clark, and head women’s basketball coach Kristi Curry of Texas A&M and current Milwaukee Brewer pitching ace Ben Sheets.

Mitchell has also met and worked with numerous sports figures including Dick Vitale, Tim Brando, Mel Kiper, Chris Fowler, Clyde Drexler, Jim Valvano, O.J. Simpson, Ken Stabler, Todd Christensen, Vern Lundquist,
While at Henderson State, Mitchell was also local media coordinator for the 2005 and 2006 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Elite 8 Championships in Hot Springs.

Mitchell also handles the statistics for the Arkansas Activities Association State High School football and basketball tournaments.

For the past 18 years, the 41-year-old has been the coordinator of the Independence Bowl statistics crew which earned the title of the nation’s best stat crew the last five years according to the NCAA Bowl game evaluations.

Mitchell has earned numerous awards both on the national and state levels for his media guides and fact sheets, including earning first place from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in July of 2003 for best fact sheet. Mitchell earned a fourth-place national ranking for his 2006 and 2007 volleyball media guide and fourth-place for the HSU football game program. 

A member of the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Mitchell is an avid supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, organizing a fund-raiser each year to help make a child’s wish in Clark County become a  reality.

The Zanesville, Ohio, native is married to the former Veronica Goodwin of West Monroe, La., and has one stepdaughter, Daphne. Mitchell is the son of Ralph and Jane Mitchell of Zanesville and has one brother, Travis.
