1997 Inductees

CLYDE BERRY
Participated in football and baseball from 1950-52; Coached at HSU from 1963-87; Head football coach from 1967-70; Team won Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1969; NAIA Baseball Coach of the Year in 1966; Coached AIC baseball champions in 1965 and 1982; AIC and NAIA District Baseball Coach of the Year in 1982.

RALPH "SPORTY" CARPENTER
Participated in football from 1954-57; All-AIC in 1956; Head football coach from 1971-89; NAIA District Coach of the Year in 1973, 1974 and 1985; NAIA Coach of the Year in 1985; Coached teams to five AIC titles (1973-75, '77 and '85); NAIA committee member; Inducted to NAIA Hall of Fame in 1990.

DON DYER
Participated in football, basketball and track from 1952-55; All-AIC in 1953 and 1954 (football); Team captain in 1954 (football); Head basketball coach from 1963-78; Coached teams to eight AIC championships; AIC Coach of the Year in 1976-77; NAIA District Coach of the Year in 1973 and 1976; Inducted to NAIA Hall of Fame in 1992; Inducted to Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.

ROY GREEN
Participated in football from 1975-78; All-AIC from 1976-78; NAIA All-District in 1978; Honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1977; NAIA All-American in 1978; Team captain in 1978; Led AIC in interceptions and punt returns in 1978; HSU single-season interception record (nine in '78); 4th round draft choice by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979; Played 16 seasons in the NFL; In 1981, became the first NFL player to start "both ways" (wide receiver, defensive back) in 21 years.

JIMMY HAYGOOD
Coached football, baseball, basketball and track at HSU; Athletic Director from 1907-24; Football teams won fouSports Medicine r state championships (1907-10); Football stadium and gym at HSU named in his honor; Inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1960.

MICKEY O'QUINN
Participated in football from 1950-52; Team captain in 1952; All-AIC in 1951 and 1952; Reddie Athlete of the Year in 1953; Executive Athletic Director and Associate Dean of HPER department.

LEWIS PRYOR
Participated in football and baseball; All-AIC from 1971-74 in football; NAIA All-American in football in 1974; HSU single-season punt return record with 16.3 average in 1974; HSU single-season kickoff return record with 39.3 average in 1974; Signed as free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 1974; Inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1989.

EARNEST RHONE
Participated in football from 1971-74; All-AIC from 1971-74; NAIA All-District in 1974; NAIA All-American in 1974; Played 10 years with the Miami Dolphins; Named defensive captain in 1982; Started in 1983 Super Bowl and led all tacklers with 14; Also played in 1985 Super Bowl; Inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988.

JIM MACK SAWYER
Participated in football, basketball and track; Football team captain in 1948; All-AIC football player in 1948; All-AIC in basketball in 1948 and 1949; Head football coach from 1962-66; Head track coach; Coached AIC champion football team in 1963; Athletic Director at Henderson; Inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1982.

BO SHERMAN
Participated in football from 1926-29; Team captain in 1929; All-State in 1927 and 1928; Voted Best Athlete at Henderson in 1929 and 1930; Head football coach from 1931-34; Coached three AIC Championship teams 1932-34; Head basketball coach from 1931-34 and won state championship in 1932-33; Inducted into Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.

BETTYE WALLACE
Participated in tennis in 1949 and 1950; Coached at Henderson from 1963-87; Coached AWISA champion volleyball team in 1975; Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1981; Tennis Coach of the Year in 1986; Women's athletic director at Henderson.

DUKE WELLS
Participated in football, basketball and baseball from 1932-34; All-State from 1932-34 in football; All-Time All-State Team in football; Head basketball coach from 1941-49; Head football coach from 1941-61; Coached teams to two AIC championships (1950 and '59); Arkansas Coach of the Year in 1950; Athletic Director from 1962-79; Inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1971; Inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1970; HPER building named in his honor.

DANNY DAVIS
Participated in basketball from 1968-71; second all-time leading scorer at Henderson State; All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference 1969-71; NAIA All-District from 1969-71; NAIA All-Tournament Team in 1969; NAIA All-American from 1969-71.

CHARLIE DONALDSON
Participated in football and track from 1958-61; All-AIC from 1958-60 in football; Team Captain in football in 1960; NAIA All-American in football in 1959 and 1960; won shotput and was second in the discus at 1960 AIC track meet; signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1961; was an assistant football coach at HSU.

SAM GOODWIN
Participated in football and track; set AIC record for the discus in 1965; Honorable Mention All-AIC in football in 1963; Team Captain in football in 1965; All-AIC in 1965 in football on both offense and defense; NAIA football All-American in 1965; AIC discus champion in 1964, '65 and '66; football team's Most Valuable Player in 1966; AIC All-Decade Team as chosen by Dave Campbell's Arkansas Football Magazine.

TOMMY HART
Participated in football from 1966-69; Team Captain in 1969; AIC All-Star in 1968; All-AIC in 1968 and 1969; Second-team NAIA All-American in 1969; set HSU and AIC single season total offense record in 1969 with 2,223 yards; fifth all-time in points scored in AIC history; third all-time in total offense in AIC history.

BOBBY REESE
Head men's basketball coach from 1978-80, compiling a 44-14 record; led team to Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1978-79; NAIA District 17 champions in 1978-79; led Reddies to NAIA national runner-up finish in 1979; played at HSU from 1948-52.

BO ROWLAND
Participated in football, basketball and baseball in 1920 and 1921; head basketball coach from 1925-31; coached football at Henderson from 1925-30, compiling a record of 36-10-4; coached state championship football teams from 1927-30; his teams won two Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference titles; inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1968.

DR. DELORES WHITE
Instructor and professor at HSU from 1963-94; served as swimming coach from 1963-82; Director of Reddie Ripples synchronized swimming club; coordinator of recreation degree program; Lifetime Achievement Award from Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association; recognition from Major League Baseball Hall of Fame for her participation in the first Women's Professional Baseball League.

BO ADKISSON
Participated in football; All-AIC in 1976 and 1977; NAIA All-American in 1976 and 1977; AIC's all-time leading scorer with 239 points; AIC's all-time leader in field goals (41) and extra points (119); signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1978.

ALLEN BERRY
Participated in football from 1925-28; participated in basketball and track from 1926-28; made the All-Association Team in 1926 (football); All-State football player in 1927 and 1928; Manager of War Memorial Stadium from 1948-69; Inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1975.

CHERIE BUCKLEY
Participated in volleyball 1990-93; First All-Conference player under Rhonda Thigpen in 1991; First player in AIC history to earn All-American honors in volleyball; All-AIC and 3rd Team NAIA All-American in 1992; MVP of NAIA District 17 and Gulf South Conference in 1993; First-team NAIA All-American in 1993; NAIA All-Tournament Team in 1992 and 1993; led HSU to NAIA Final Four in 1992 and 1993.

CHRIS CARTER
Participated in football 1990-93; Only four-time All-American in HSU football history; All-AIC punter 1990-92; All-GSC in 1993; First HSU player to earn All-GSC honors; led NCAA Division II in punting in 1993; selected to play in 1993 Snow Bowl (Division II All-Star Game); had 36 punts of 50 or more yards; career average of 42.3 yards on 221 punts.

KEN DUKE
Participated in golf 1989-92; Four-time All-AIC and four-time AIC Player of the Year; holds AIC record for stroke average in a season (68.4); 1992 NAIA All-American; became first HSU player to play in a PGA event (1996 Greater Vancouver Open); played in 1997 British Open; spent 1995 on Nike Tour; Played on Canadian Tour 1996-99; finished second at 1996 Canadian Masters.

KENNY FELLS
Participated in football from 1982-85; All-AIC in 1984 and 1985; NAIA All-District in 1985; NAIA All-American in 1985; Leading rusher in the AIC in 1985; HSU single-season rushing record with 1,472 yards in 1985; HSU single-season scoring record with 102 points in 1985; Top 10 all-time in total offense and scoring in the AIC; Top five in all-time single-season rushing in AIC history; Drafted in 11th round by the Washington Redskins.

RANDY STEWART
Four-year letterman with the rifle team 1969-73; led HSU to three consecutive AIC titles; two-time 5th Army ROTC champion; member of U.S. Army shooting team 1978-86; won 23 national championships, 30 interservice championships, and 13 international medals; member of 1980 and 1984 United States Olympic Teams; Member of 1983 Pan American Team in which he won gold and silver medals; inducted into the U.S. Army Shooting Hall of Fame in 1983; selected as one of the Olympic torch bearers for the torch run through Arkansas in 1996.

ANTHONY AVERY
Participated in basketball from 1976-79; Three-time All-AIC from 1978-80; NAIA All-American in 1979; Led the Reddies to the 1979 NAIA national championship game; NAIA All-Tournament team in 1979; Led NAIA in free throw shooting during the 1977-78 season (91.5 percent).

TERRY BLAYLOCK
 Participated in football and baseball from 1972-75; Honorable Mention All-AIC in football in 1973; All-AIC in football in 1974 and '75; NAIA All-District in football in 1974 and '75; Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in football in 1975; Football team captain in 1975; Second-team All-AIC in baseball in 1974.

DANIEL HUNTER
Participated in football and track; All-AIC in football from 1981-83; All-AIC in track from 1981-84; NAIA All-American in football and track in 1983; NAIA All-American in track in 1984; Signed as a free agent in 1985 by the Denver Broncos; Had long career as a defensive back in the Canadian Football League.

BILLY LEFEAR
Participated in football from 1968-71; AIC All-Star in 1968; All-AIC in 1971; 36 receptions in 1969 ranks as the third highest single-season total in school history; 9th round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 1972.

ENOS MITCHELL
Participated in basketball from 1974-77; All-AIC in 1974, '75 and '77; NAIA All-District from 1974-77; Honorable Mention NAIA All-American in 1975; NAIA All-American in 1977; NAIA All-Tournament in 1976; Won NAIA Tournament Hustle Award.

STAN PARRIS
Participated in football from 1967-70; AIC All-Star in 1968; Four-time All-AIC player from 1967-70; NAIA All-American as a senior in 1970; seven interceptions in 1970 ranks as the third highest single-season total in school history.

JAN ALLEN SEGREST
Participated in basketball from 1970-73; Also played tennis in 1971; Made the All-Touurnament team at the 1971 Arkansas Women's State Basketball Tournament; Led the team in scoring in both the 1972 and '73 seasons.

DOYLE WALLACE
Volunteer Head Golf Coach from 1980-91; Won eight consecutive NAIA District 17 championships from 1984-91; Won seven consecutive AIC championships from 1985-91; Coached 27 All-AIC 23 All-District and six All-American players; Also coached four Academic All-Americans; Won Henderson's "H" Award for outstanding service to the university.

2001 Inductees

Kathy Comeaux
Played basketball from 1992-94 and 1995-96. HSU’s all-time leading rebounder; ranks second all-time in scoring and third in steals; holds school record for most points and rebounds in a game; named team MVP in 1994 and 96’; All AIC and All- District in 1993; All-GSC in 1994 and 96’; AIC Player of the Year in 1993; GSC Player if the Year in 1994; 1993 NAIA All-American; NCAA All-American in 1994 and 96’; helped lead Lady Reddies to GSC West Division title in 1994.

Fred Dawson
Played football, baseball, and track. Earned All-AIC honors in baseball in 1964 and 65’; Earned All-AIC in football and track in 1964; signed professional baseball contract with the New York Yankees in 1965; coached as a graduate assistant and as a defensive backs coach at HSU for three years; has been in school administration since 1974; awarded Bronze Star in 1991 for meritorious service in Operation Desert Strom.

Larry Ducksworth
Participated in basketball from 1967-68’; Honorable Mention NAIA All- American in 1968; tied AIC single-game record for points (56 in 1967); AIC single-game record for field goals (25 in 1967).

Clint Fuller
Played football and baseball for HSU; served as an official in the AIC, the Southland Conference and the Southwest Conference; coached at Nashville High School from 1948-50 and at Stamps High School in 1951-52; officiated first game in 1945 (Nashville at DeQueen); officiated 1975 Sugar Bowl between Penn State and Alalbama, 1980 Gator Bowl between North Carolina and Michigan, and 1981 Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame; was football rules interpreter for more than 25 years and ranked as the SWC’s top official; inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association/ Arkansas Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1996.

Louis Pike
Participated in track. NAIA All-American in indoor track (1976); NAIA All-American in outdoor track (1976-78); holds AIC records for 120-yard hurdles and 110 meter high hurdles; qualified for Olympic trials.

Bill Shirron
Played basketball from 1954-58. All AIC in 1956, 57’ and 58’; HSU’s first three-time All-AIC basketball player; captain of 1958 AIC championship team that went 18-2; member of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, Heart and Key, ROTC, Student Government Association, and Men’s Council; Won HSU Distinguished Alumni honor in December of 2000.

Ken Turner
Four-year letterman in baseball and football. Director of Athletics from 1989-2000 and head football coach from 1990-93; Inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2001; played major role in HSU’s move from NAIA to NCAA; All-AIC in baseball in 1955, coached for 36 years at HSU, The University of Arkansas and three state high schools; member of the Men’s Council at HSU in 1954.
