Purpose:
Henderson State University is an open test center for the CLEP program. The Subject Examinations allow a student to demonstrate the specific knowledge and skills he or she has gained through professional training, outside course work, or independent study. CLEP allows students the opportunity to bypass introductory courses thereby cutting down on college time and expense.
Students may take the Subject Examination in Freshman College Composition for credit in Freshman English. Subject Examinations are also available in many other subjects including American history, biology, and college algebra. Students may take the General Examination in Humanities. A list of CLEP examinations as applied to Henderson State University's courses is provided on this Web page. Credit is entered on the transcript when the student has completed at least 15 hours with at least a "C" average. The term "credit" is placed on the transcript, and the hours do not enter into a student's grade point average.
Restrictions:
- Credit may be earned by any student on any Subject Examination provided credit has NOT been earned in a more advanced course.
- A test designed to cover two semesters (Freshman College Composition, American Literature, English Literature) may not be taken if the student has completed one semester of the course.
- Students who desire to earn more than 30 hours by testing must secure official permission.
- Tests may be repeated in six months.
- The School of Business has placed certain restrictions on CLEP credit within the school. Business majors/ minors may not receive credit for business CLEP tests.
Description:
The CLEP tests are computer-based tests composed of multiple-choice questions. There are no scheduled breaks. One of the sections of the foreign language test is a listening section.
For more detailed information, refer to the CLEP Information for Candidates and Registration Form found in the Testing Center, or call (870)230-5470.
