School of Business Business Area Test Information
Purpose:
As part of the School of Business's continuous improvement outcomes assessment program, the Major Field Achievement Test in Business (BAT) is administered to all graduating seniors majoring in Business. The BAT is designed to assess mastery of concepts, principles, and knowledge typically expected of students upon completion of an undergraduate major in business. The test goes beyond factual knowledge: it is constructed to evaluate the student's ability to analyze and solve problems, understand relationships, and interpret material.
Description:
The BAT is a paper-pencil, multiple-choice test divided into two, one-hour sessions. The test administration requires approximately two and a half hours to complete. Each test contains questions that elicit concrete information as well as questions that require interpretation of graphs, diagrams, and charts based on material closely related to the field. Areas covered on the test and approximate number of questions in each category include: Accounting (19), Economics (15), Finance (13), Management (20), Marketing (14), and Quantitative Business Analysis (19).
2007-2008 Test Schedule and Registration Procedures:
Candidates pay the test fee at the Business Office and retain receipt.

Scores:
Scores are reported in four to six weeks after the test. The results of the exam are reported for each individual, and overall scores are reported for Henderson State University.
A minimum performance score on the BAT is required of all business graduates at Henderson State University. A minimum score of 140 (which is in the 13th percentile range) is required. Students not meeting the performance score will be required to retake the exam at an additional cost during the week of final exams.
The School of Business faculty take the results (both individual and overall) of this exam very seriously in making decisions as to how we can improve the "Henderson experience" for students.
