Christmas World

Students in Henderson's International Student Association have been finding a variety of ways to "Get Reddie" for the holiday season.

To promote diversity on campus, a brown bag luncheon, "Christmas around the World," was held on Dec. 2. Caddo A filled with international and American students to learn about the Christmas holiday customs around the world. Georgette Nkwo from Cameroon, Carla Silveira from Brazil, Denka Markova from Bulgaria, Craig Seager from Bahrain, Anmol Bhatia from India, Byung-Hoi Go from South Korea, Alistair Wood from the Bahamas, Onat Tungac from Turkey, Jolanta Smolen from Poland, Judy Wei from Taiwan, along with Yuris Gaunt from the Dominican Republic and Shante Uzoigwe from the USA, presented about the holiday customs in their home countries and how they spend the holidays with their family.

Mrs. Katherine Vlassek, director of international student programs, and Mrs. Julia Correia, coordinator for the Center for Language Proficiency, and two American student guests also described Christmas customs in their families.

Participants learned that, regardless of where you come from or what your religion, Christmas or alternative holidays are about the same thing: family, love, peace, and understanding.
