Finance Option

The Business Administration curriculum is structured to provide the broad education that students need for career success as future business executives.
A rapidly changing business environment makes it essential that future business leaders be broadly educated in order to adjust and adapt themselves to changing requirements. This curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong base from which to gain entry into an organization through either a Business Information Systems, Finance, Management, or Marketing concentration and yet give the flexibility and upward career mobility necessary for advancement to general management.
Business majors are not allowed more than 6 hours from GBU 4003-Internship in Business, MGM 4143-Small Business Management, and GBU 4211, 4222-Entrepreneurship Seminar I & II, as advanced business electives to meet graduation requirements.
Two (2) writing intensive (WI) courses are required for students entering HSU under the 2006-2008 catalog or later. Students must also take ENG 3313-Review Composition (or test out) if graduating May 2008 or later (contact the Testing Center in Caplinger, room 121 regarding the test).
Requirements for the Finance Option
In addition to the Liberal Arts core and Business core courses, the student must complete the courses listed below with a grade of "C'' or better.

Courses in the Finance Option
FIN 4073, 5073 Advanced Financial Management
A study of the corporate finance function with emphasis on financial analysis techniques for decision making. Topics include leasing, capital structure, dividend policy, international finance, financial derivatives and mergers and acquisitions. Prerequisite: FIN 3043.
FIN 4103, 5103 Investment Principles
Foundations for investment decision-making are covered. This course involves a study of the characteristics of all types of investment securities, the types of investment risk, and the worth and suitability of various types of securities for investors in different circumstances and with different investment objectives. Growth factors in investment and investment strategies for both limited-income securities and variable-income securities are investigated. Emphasis is focused on common stocks and equity-investment vehicles such as investment company shares and variable annuity contracts. Prerequisite: FIN 3043.
FIN 4213 Security Analysis & Portfolio Management
Students will actively manage the Ross Whipple Investment Fund while learning to evaluate and price stocks as well as other securities. Topics include modern portfolio theory, risk and return assessment, financial statement analysis, and analysis of market trends. Prerequisites: FIN 4103 for undergraduates; FIN 4103/5103 or consent of instructor for graduate students.
FIN (Advanced Finance Elective)
MGM 4193 International Business
Introduction to the environment of international business with emphasis on cultural diversity, international institutions, government business interface, and global competition. Case studies will be used to emphasize issues. Country studies (both written and oral) will be developed and presented. Prerequisites: FIN 3043, MGM 3113, MKT 3013.
