Ways to Support Henderson State University

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund works to encourage annual gifts from Henderson Aumni and friends.  These gifts are secured by both direct mail and phoning efforts.  Currently, the Phonathon is conducted at least once a year by current Henderson students. The Annual Fund has increased steadily over the past five years, which includes a 16% increase from 2000 - 2001 to 2001 - 2002.  This is a testament to the loyalty of the Henderson alumni and proves once again that we are "The School with a Heart."

Establish a Scholarship

There is no greater way to pave the future than by providing a scholarship to a current student.  There are two types of scholarships that can be awarded to Henderson students through private giving:

Endowed Scholarships

An endowed scholarship remains in perpetuity.  Only the interest is awarded on an annual basis.  It takes a minimum of $10,000 to endow a named scholarship.  Endowed scholarships are an excellent way to honor a family member or  to remember a friend.

Annual Scholarships

An annual scholarship is renewed annually.  The amount of the scholarship is exactly what the donor gives to Henderson.  The donor is contacted annually for possible renewal of the award.

Life-Income Gifts (Charitable Remainder Trust and Gift Annuities)
You can design your financial plan to enable you to contribute to Henderson State University while retaining all or a portion of the annual income generated by your gift.  These instruments are very effective tools that benefit both the donor and Henderson State University.

Gifts of Real Estate & Property

In most cases, Henderson State University can accept gifts of residential and commercial properties, homes, ranches, farms, boats, and certain personal property.  The tax benefits for gifts of appreciated real estate are similar to those for gifts of appreciated securities.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Gifts of publicly traded stock or securities, particularly highly appreciated, long term securities held more than one year, offer an advantageous way to support Henderson State University, while qualifying for a two-fold tax savings, generating a deduction on your federal income tax return and an exemption from capital gain taxes.

Short-term securities are considered ordinary income property by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and a charitable deduction may be taken only for the original cost of the securities.

Corporate Matching Gifts

You can double or further multiply the impact of a gift if you are an employee, retiree, or director of a corporation which matches gifts to qualified institutions.  The corporation will be recognized in gift reports.  Please contact the Office of Development for assistance in determining your eligibility to making a matching gift.

Pledges

Henderson will accept pledges to all for the budgeting of substantial gifts.  Pledge reminders will be sent monthly, quarterly, or annually at your request.
