2007 Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet

April 19, 2007

 2007 Hall of Fame

AT the 2007 School of Business Hall of Fame Awards Banquet that took place in the banquet room of Garrison Student Center on April 19, Mr. Ross Godwin was inducted into the School of Business Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame tradition began in 2002 and Mr. Godwin is the tenth inductee.

Mr. Godwin, a native of Hot Springs, earned a BSBA degree with a major in marketing from Henderson in 1977. While attending Henderson he was president of the Baptist Student Center, participated in intramural sports (winning the intramural tennis tournament), was active in the Civitan Club, and worked for the Clark County Library driving the book mobile.

In 1978 he entered the underwriter trainee program with Fireman’s Fund Insurance in Little Rock. During a 24 year career with Fireman’s Fund he held various positions including Underwriter, Supervisor, and Business Development Manager. In 1995 Ross was offered the opportunity to move to Atlanta, Georgia to be the Underwriting Manager for a 38 state region with Fireman’s Fund. In 2001 he made the decision to leave Fireman’s Fund for an opportunity with St. Paul Insurance (now Travelers Insurance Company). For the past 6 years he has been the Regional Underwriting Director for the Southeast Region.

In addition to his career in insurance, Ross’s passions include his family, tennis, working with teenagers, and serving the Henderson School of Business. He and his wife, Lonette, whom he met at Henderson, reside in Alpharetta, Georgia. Other members of the family include daughter, Mandy, and new son-in-law, Jeremy Rockett. Son, Brad, is a student at Henderson.

Godwin’s work with teenagers, including teaching Sunday school for the past 25 years, led to the publication of his book, Teenagers-Worth the Effort.

Since his appointment to the Business Advisory Council in 2005, Ross has worked hard to further the mission of the school. In addition to his work on the council, he serves as the Executive Director of the Business Mentorship Program for the School of Business and has formed the "Committee of Five" consisting of himself and four other alumni. This group has fostered ideas for the growth of the School of Business and encouraged a spirit of giving.

Ross shows commitment through investment of his time, talent and treasure. He is the true embodiment of the Reddie Spirit.

Numerous scholarships and awards were also presented at this banquet. Dr. Margaret Hoskins, professor of accounting, was announced as the Instructor of the Year based on student voting and thereby the recipient of the Students' Choice Award.
