International Students

Prospective international students should submit an international application of admission along with a non-refundable $30 application fee (paid in U.S. dollars in the form or bank draft, money order, or personal check). Students from countries where English is not the first language must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores of at least 500 (paper based), 173 (computer based) or 61(Internet based). The Henderson State institutional code for TOEFL scores is 6272. Alternatively a score of 5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is also acceptable. Official results from the ACT or SAT tests are also required unless a waiver is obtained from the International Admission Office. Request for waivers are evaluated based on the availability of examination sites within the country or origin.

A completed and certified financial statement form verifying financial support for one academic year is required. All tuition, fees and mandatory health insurance must be paid in full upon arrival. Foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated to equivalent U.S. semester credits by a member organization of either the Association of International Credential Evaluator, Inc. (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). International coursework will also be accepted if it has already been transcripted through an accredited institution of higher learning within the United States. Acceptance letters of admission will be mailed with an I-20 form. These documents must be presented to the American Consulate or Embassy in the country of origin to obtain a travel visa. International students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits hours each semester in order to maintain good standing for F-1 Visa regulations as prescribed by USCIS. New international students must coordinate their arrival with the International Admissions Office in order to guarantee attendance at required orientation events.

Upon arrival to the university, incoming international students should schedule an appointment with a nurse at the SHC at (870) 230-5102.  The international student should bring all documentation of all vaccination records with them to their appointment. The nurse will review their records and document what vaccinations are needed.  It will be the responsibility of the student to make arrangements for completion of requirements. As of 2011 the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Vaccines For Children Program no longer provides vaccines, free of charge, to colleges.  Due to the rising health care costs, the SHC will no longer be providing these services. These services should be provide through:

Clark County Health Department (CCHD)
605 S.10th Street
(870) 246 - 4471
(by appointment only)

The MMR vaccination may also be obtained at Walgreen’s at 131 N. 26th St. (870) 230-1809 or Walmart at 109 W.P. Malone Dr. (870) 246-5410.  Students will need to verify if their insurance provider will pay for the vaccination.  If not, they will incur the out-of-pocket expense. The Arkansas State Board of Health Rules and Regulations require that all freshman and foreign borne students (born outside the United States) provide documentation of 2 MMR vaccinations. Foreign borne students are also required to have TB testing, if from an endemic country. All documentation must be provided showing completion or initiation of said requirements within 30 days of enrollment. If documentation is not provided he/she must be excluded from the university until provided. If you have questions regarding these requirements, please contact the SHC.

Transferring from Another American Institution of Higher Learning

Prospective international transfers must identify on their international admission application as a transfer student. Official transcripts from the American institution must be submitted (see format requirements for official transcripts). Documentation to verify financial support and possession of F-1 Visa will also be required.
