Lady Reddies Basketball Adds Two More Signees
By Cody Qualls

Henderson State head coach Josh Matthews has announced the signing of two more players for the upcoming women’s basketball season.

Henderson State has signed Eryn Stepherson and Karrissica “Spoon” Harper.

Henderson State has now signed seven new basketball players for the 2010-2011 season, after last season when the team only missed the postseason tournament by one game.

Stepherson (St. Louis, Mo.) has played basketball at both Highland Community College and Southern Illinois University. The 5-11 guard played in 21 games and started two contests at Southern Illinois University as a freshman. After averaging 14 minutes per game as a freshman at SIU, Stepherson played at Highland Community College where she averaged six points and three assists per game.

Coach Matthews believes Stepherson can be a true playmaker at Henderson State. “Eryn is a big guard that can shoot the three, but she is best attacking the basket,” he said. “She scored over twenty points a night in high school and signed with SIU, so she is a very talented player. She was asked to be more of a distributor last season at Highland, but she has the ability to put up big numbers. She is perfect for the dribble drive motion offense and we are excited about her coming to Henderson State.”

Harper (Waco, Texas) signed with Texas Southern in 2009 after leading Waco Midway High School to a Class 4A state championship. At Texas Southern, the 5-1 guard played in 24 games as a freshman, averaging 17.3 minutes, three points and three assists per game.

“Spoon (Harper) is a floor general,” Matthews said. “She is only a sophomore, so we will have her for the next three years. She is small, but very quick and has excellent floor vision. She has great basketball IQ, gets into the lane off the dribble and makes great decisions with the ball. We are very happy she chose HSU over many other schools to continue playing basketball.”
