Volleyball to Close Regular Season Thursday Night at Home
Nov. 4, 2009
By Cody Qualls
Henderson State’s final regular season home volleyball match is set for Thurs. Nov. 5th. An error occurred early in the schedule making process, and some schedules have the match incorrectly set for Wednesday night.
Four seniors will be honored before Thursday’s GSC match against Arkansas Tech, including outside hitter Tatiana Kuhn, setters Tagata Fo’a and Dalia Serra, and All-American libero Bethany Wright.
Kuhn (Esteio, Brazil) has been a GSC Offensive Player of the Week selection three times this year, and has totaled 526 kills, averaging 5.06 kills per game. Kuhn has also totaled 255 digs, 57 blocks and 23 serving aces on the season, while playing in all 104 games for the Lady Reddies.
Fo’a (Pago Pago, Samoa) is third on the team with 244 set assists, averaging 3.64 per game. Fo’a has also totaled 69 digs, 30 kills and 16 serving aces.
Serra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has 300 set assists (4.92/game), while also earning 38 kills, 20 digs and 14 blocks.
Wright broke the all-time Gulf South Conference record for digs in a career this season, and her total now stands at 2,808 in her four year career at HSU, placing her fourth all-time in NCAA history . Wright, a three time conference defensive player of the week in 2009, has totaled 620 digs, 14 serving aces and 13 kills this season.
Henderson State (14-14 overall, 7-3 GSC) will travel to play Harding University in Searcy Tuesday night, before returning home to host Tech in Arkadelphia on Thursday. The team will then play in the conference tournament Nov. 13 and 14 in Searcy.
