Henderson State Drops Home Match Against West Alabama
Oct. 16, 2009
By Cody Qualls

Henderson State lost its first home match of the season on Friday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark., dropping a four set decision against West Alabama by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 13-25, 25-22. The Lady Reddies dropped a five set match on Sept. 19 against the Lady Tigers.

West Alabama (23-5), winners of 16 straight matches, forced Henderson State into 19 attack errors and were led by Jessica Crook’s game high 23 digs.

After dropping the first two sets of the match, Henderson State got a win in the third set by outhitting its opponent .417 to .125 in the game. But the team fell behind early in the fourth set, and its comeback attempt fell short.

Tatiana Kuhn led Henderson State (11-13 overall) with 21 kills and hit .180 in the game with 10 errors, and also added 10 digs. Robin Law attacked at a .279 clip and added 17 kills.

Shawana Watkins was third on the team with nine kills, while All-American libero Bethany Wright added 25 digs to her career total, which is already the most in the history of the Gulf South Conference.

Senior Shannon Todd totaled one kill, eight digs and four blocks. Michelle Long (three) and Watkins (four) also earned blocks in the contest. Dalia Serra (26) and Stephanie Batchelder (14) continued to lead the team in offensive sets.

The Lady Reddies will return to the court Sat. morning at 10 a.m. against Alabama-Huntsville.
