History of the Henderson Student Foundation

The Henderson Student Foundation had its beginnings in 1993.  Dr. Charles Dunn, President of Henderson, Dr. John Hall, Director of Development at the time and Treasurer of the Henderson Foundation, and Johnnie Melton, Annual Fund Coordinator wanted to create a group that would assist current students on campus while teaching the importance of private support of Henderson.  Looking at programs like the one established at Georgia Tech University, The Henderson Student Foundation was formed.

The HSF is not a recognized student organization, but rather a committee of the Henderson Foundation.  The HSF is made up of between 15-20 students called the board of directors, who raise funds for the HSF.  They also manage an endowment that has seen tremendous growth since the organization’s inception.  Each Spring the board of directors conducts a campaign to raise funds for the endowment.  The board also solicits grant applications to award grants to students and student groups.  These grants are awarded from the interest generated from the endowment.  So, if the endowment grows, the more money the Board of directors is able to give in the form of grants.  In a nutshell, we raise money and educate our campus about private support of Henderson, and then turn around and award grants to those who want to help make Henderson a better university
