REGULATION AND PROCEDURES FOR ADJUNCT FACULTY ON-AND OFF-CAMPUS
- All adjunct faculty appointments are subject to sufficient enrollment to justify economical operation of the class. This is normally determined at the time of registration.
- All employees, including adjunct faculty, must submit federal and state tax withholding forms in addition to the I-9 Eligibility Form (verification of citizenship) and other information to the Human Resources Office.
- Henderson State University will contribute to the Teacher Retirement System for parttime/adjunct faculty under one of the following conditions:
a.The person employed as part-time/ adjunct faculty is concurrently employed full-time in another covered position (such as public school teaching); or
b. The person employed as part-time/adjunct faculty is contracted to teach a minimum of nine semester hours per semester at HSU.
- Prior approval of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration is required of persons employed concurrently by Henderson State University and another state agency.
- A resume and official transcript(s) must be submitted to the University at the time of initial employment. Please send to Vice President for Academic Affairs, HSU Box 7530, Arkadelphia, AR 71999.
- Adjunct faculty, whether full-time or part-time, are non-tenure track and are not eligible for tenure.
- Adjunct faculty employed on less than a nine-month appointment will receive only those benefits required by state or federal law unless an agreement specifically indicates that fringe benefits are included. Appointments that are normally excluded from fringe benefits are adjunct appointments, semester appointments, or other arrangements of a temporary nature. Fringe benefits will be included in such cases where the individual is employed at the beginning of the spring semester which is considered the initial employment of a permanent position.
- Travel reimbursement may be allowed at the rate of $.45 per mile for part-time faculty employed to teach an off-campus class. Travel must be approved in advance on a Travel Authorization form and requires that travel be undertaken from the home station to class location, if they differ. TR-1 forms showing actual travel are completed at the end of each month and submitted by the faculty member to the appropriate administrative office.
- Adjunct faculty will be paid in four payments. Payroll dates are the last working day of each month, February through May for spring semester instructors and September through
December for fall semester instructors.
