Archives' History

Brief History

Henderson State University Archives was established by President Martin B. Garrison in 1975 to preserve the history of the institution.  When  the HSU Museum closed, some of the paper documents and photographs were transferred to the HSU Archives.

The Archives was managed from the time 1975 until 2001 by J. Robert Greene.  Mr. Greene was an Associate Professor of History when appointed the position. He had two locations for Archives depositories:  a room in Arkansas Hall and a McBrien Hall vault.  Mr. Greene passed away a short time after his retirement in 2001 and at that time the Archives was moved to Huie Library under the supervision of Marielle McFarland (Archivist from 2001-2005.) Since 2011, the Archives has been housed on the second floor of Huie Library.

For any other information, please contact the Archivist, Linda Evans (evansl@hsu.edu), or the Archives' Assistant, Natalie Scrimshire (scrimsn@hsu.edu.)
