Enhance the Honors College

The university works hard to recruit qualified current and prospective students to the Honors College. This initiative seeks to make the college even more attractive to students, both current and prospective; enhance the overall learning experience of Honors College students; present a wider range of specific academic and experiential opportunities; and elevate the program to the next level.

Action and Elements

  1. Empower and task the Honors College director with the resources to actively recruit qualified high school students.
    • Reach out to Henderson alumni who are teaching in high schools in the region to assist in identifying potential Honors College students.
    • Obtain all available ACT data to assist in identifying potential Honors College students.
    • Obtain funding sources for scholarships specifically aimed at Honors College students.
  2. Empower and task the Honors College director with the resources to actively recruit qualified transfer students.
    • Develop contacts at area community colleges to assist in identifying potential Honors College students.
    • Obtain funding sources for scholarships specifically aimed at Honors College students.
  3. Assist the Honors College director in identifying currently enrolled students who are eligible/qualified for membership in the Honors College.
    • Raise the profile of the Honors College among faculty, staff and students.
  4. Identify programs, courses, activities, trips, etc., that can be added to the Honors College curriculum/experience to enhance the program and make it more desirable for students.
  5. Empower faculty interested in travel (regional, national, or international) to offer travel experiences aimed at Honors College students.
  6. Work with the director of the undergraduate research program to make research a more vital part of the Honors College experience.
