Spirit Squads

About Spirit Squads

Henderson State’s cheer and pom squads are comprised of at least 14 young men and women each whose mission is to support and promote school spirit at Reddie Athletic events and throughout campus.

Each squad cheers at all home football and basketball games, and participates in a variety of Henderson State campus events. As a Reddie Spirit Squad member, you will participate in a spirit camp one week prior to the beginning of classes, and commit to practice 3-5 days a week during both the fall and spring semesters.

Scholarships for both cheer and pom squads are awarded to students based on tryouts during the spring semester. These scholarships are renewable from fall to spring semesters based on the following criteria:

  • Student must remain in good standing with the University
  • Complete a total of 15 credit hours per semester
  • Maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA

All incoming freshmen must meet admissions requirements of the university prior to being allowed to tryout for the squad. All uniforms, travel expenses and travel meals are provided for each squad member.

Contracts are for a full academic year and all renewals will be based on attitude, performance, progress, attendance and will be at the discretion of the coach. If a cheerleader breaks any portion of the signed contract they will be removed from the squad and will forfeit their scholarship money.
