Other Discussion Items

Approved - Double Dipping Policy

  • Faculty feedback obtained by the Registrar indicates a desire to continue the current practice, which is to not regulate double dipping between two majors, two minors or a major and a minor at the institutional level, but rather to leave this to the discretion of each academic program. The Provost has however expressed a desire to require consistency across programs. It seems a larger conversation on the matter will need to take place Fall 2016.
  • The 2016-2017 Catalog will contain the following language (see below), which matches the current practice at Henderson State University. If a new policy is adopted Fall 2016 then it will take effect for the 2017-2018 catalog year.

Double Dipping Across Degree Requirements

Double dipping occurs when a single course counts toward multiple graduation requirements. Students are permitted to double dip between the Liberal Arts Core and their major and/or minor program of study. Policies governing double dipping between a major and a minor, two majors or two minors will be set by the academic departments overseeing those programs.

General Education Committee & U.A.C

  • The language below appears in the current handbook (Page 8) on HSU committees. At present general education credit is being added to courses without notifying U.A.C. or the Registrar.

GENERAL EDUCATION The committee shall monitor and evaluate the program of general education to ensure that it is consistent with the goals of the university and meets the needs of the students. In addition, the committee shall oversee the Writing Across The Curriculum program, the Non-Western Cultures program and assessments responsibilities for all of these programs. The Committee shall make recommendations to the UAC pertaining to any changes or revisions of the general education program or regulations.

Outcome – A representative of the General Education Committee (G.E.C) will bring L.A.C changes to U.A.C for approval. It was noted that the following courses previously approved for L.A.C by the G.E.C are approved by U.A.C.

  • CRJ 2013 Introduction to the Criminal Justice System
  • CRJ 2033 Introduction to Criminology
