The courses in the social sciences are designed to assist students in obtaining a functional knowledge of the history of civilization and of our country in particular; give them an understanding of political systems abroad and in the United States;  help them adjust to the physical and social environment; teach them the value of cooperation and tolerance in a free society;  familiarize them with the science of earning a living; and  give them a socially acceptable group of attitudes and values.

In addition to preparation of students for graduate study, programs are designed for those who plan to pursue careers in law, the ministry, teaching, public administration and related vocations.
