Integrated Studies

Do you have diverse interests? Are you having difficulty narrowing your major to just one area? A Bachelor of Integrated Studies from Henderson State University offers a multidisciplinary approach to 21st century education.

With an ever-changing global marketplace, many employers desire graduates who have well-rounded educational backgrounds and problem-solving skills.

This major can also prepare you to enter a professional school or a graduate program. The Integrated Studies major is appealing to transfer students because it utilizes as many of the credits from other institutions as possible.

The Integrated Studies program gives students the opportunity to create a personalized, challenging plan of study. The program is interdisciplinary in nature, and each student is required to develop a thorough understanding of integrating two or more disciplines into a program that will lead to a career or graduate school.

Each student works closely with an assigned advisor from the introductory course through the senior seminar.

Students will make formal application upon entering the program. During their first semester, they will enroll in BIS2003 or 3003/Introduction to Integrated Studies. As part of that course, the student will develop a Statement of Purpose that will act as a guide for the plan of study. Until successfully completing this course, all students in the program will be considered conditionally admitted.

In developing the plan of study, students must take at least 42 hours at the junior or senior level. A maximum of seven hours of D will be accepted in the Liberal Arts Core and elective area, but a grade of C or better is required in all other areas.

Graduates of the program have entered diverse career fields, such as:

  • Administration
  • Banking
  • Counseling
  • Law
  • Entrepreneurial endeavors
