Department of Counselor Education
The Counselor Education program offers studies in the areas of School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health. The program selects highly qualified and motivated individuals and prepares them to become effective professionals in counseling and related fields.
Counselor preparation encompasses three primary constructs: the knowledge base, which includes the eight CACREP common-core areas; a variety of counseling skills; and, personal dispositions.
Through academic and clinical coursework students learn to apply theory, acquire a repertoire of helping skills, evaluate and improve personal and professional attributes, develop active listening skills, and cultivate the empathy necessary to work with diverse populations in a counseling relationship.
