Inclement Weather

Henderson State University implements the following procedures for announcing operational changes during period of inclement weather.

The decision to delay or close the university due to inclement weather is made by university’s Emergency Alert System (EAS) Team after consideration of the best information available from the National Weather Service and law enforcement.  The EAS Team carefully considers the safety of our students and employees when determining whether to make operational changes during inclement weather, with the understanding that the majority of our students live on campus and the majority of our employees live in the Arkadelphia area.  In the event of a winter storm, individuals who commute to campus from outside of the Arkadelphia area are strongly encouraged to monitor weather and road conditions in their area and on their route to campus.  Everyone is urged to exercise their best personal judgment to determine if it is safe to travel to campus in the event the university remains open.

The university will announce closings and other operational changes using the following methods:

  • Rave Alert
  • The university's web page: hsu.eduamp;#160;
  • Local and regional radio stations (KVRC AM 1240, KDEL FM HOT 100.9, AND KIX FM 106.9 in Arkadelphia and KLAZ FM 106 in Hot Springs);
  • State television stations in Little Rock (ABC-Channel 7, NBC-Channel 4, CBS-Channel 11); and
  • Recorded message at the university's telephone number - 870-230-5000.

In order to maintain basic university operations, some employees will be required to report to work. Supervisors will contact employees who are required to report to work while the university is closed.
